The Glass-House began working with Goldsmiths Community Association in April 2009, visiting the group and developing a programme of Project Support. The Project Support consisted of assisting Goldsmiths Community Association to formulate and develop an action plan and an initial strategy for a new community café within the Goldsmiths building. Levitt Bernstein Associates were contracted by The Glass-House to provide architectural advice and support, with architect Colin Muir. The primary goal of the Project Support was to provide the Community Association with a better understanding of the early processes of realising a building project and methods by which a brief for the actual project might be prepared.
This was carried out over a series of 3 workshops along with a study tour visiting similar facilities during the course of December 2009 to February 2010.
The tour was organised by Glass-House Community Led Design of cafes in south London. We visited Deptford, New Cross, East Greenwich Pleasaunce and Burgess Park.
Three representatives from the Goldsmiths group attended a two day Buildings by Design course organised by Glass-House Community Led Design at Hackney City Farm, in February 2010.
